Line and Shape

Line- a long narrow mark on a surface
Types of lines
-Horizontal- a line that is set from left to right / right to left
-Vertical- a line that is set up and down
-Free form- a line that is drawn in/at any angle or degree
-Diagonal- a line that is set in any direction besides Horizontal or vertical
-Zigzag- a group of lines in various degrees and angles
Contour and gesture- the outline or outer edge of something and something done to show a particular feeling or attitude
Line quality- the size, shape, and form of the line
Line as value- a line that emphasizes something in the piece
Outline- a line that is drawn around the edges of something
Explicit line- a specified line
Implied line- a line that is known but not physically seen
Geometric Shapes- many two-dimensional geometric shapes can be defined by a set of points or vertices and lines connecting the points in a closed chain, as well as the resulting interior points
Free Form Shapes- a shape having an irregular contour
Positive Shapes- a solid piece of sculpture occupies space, and makes the space around it come to life

Negative shapes- a background or ground shape seen in relation to foreground or figure shapes
